About Deep Roots Produce

Hi! We're Stephen and Liv McDaniel. We decided in March of 2019 to open a u-pick, we-pick produce stand and pumpkin patch in Caledonia, Michigan - just outside of Grand Rapids. We had four months to transform an old hay barn into a functioning farm stand. With the help of family and friends, we were able to make it happen! The land we farm has been in my (Liv) family for over 40 years. When my grandpa (Doc) passed in 2015, the Crissman family LLC gained possession of the land. In 2021, we purchased the land from my family, and it is officially in our name! In March of 2023, we broke ground on our new market barn and the project was completed in early September that same year. We repurposed our original market and moved our animals into it; we've since grown our petting zoo herd! We cannot wait to continue to expand while honoring the land's rich history in agriculture!

Come Visit Us!

We are so grateful for the support and love that you all showed us in our first five years! We look forward to season six, which starts on June 8, 2024! We hope you'll come out to grab some fresh produce & ice cream, enjoy a hayride in the fall, discover the sunflower and corn mazes, pick out a pumpkin (or Christmas tree,) meet our animal friends and make a day out of visiting the farm! THANK YOU!

Deep Roots Background

A little background on us...We grew up in Florida, but our roots are here in Michigan. We both come from farming families: my family raised Angus cattle, and Stephen's family farms corn and soybeans in the Thumb of Michigan. Stephen has been farming since 2011. His parents, Scott and Karen, owned a farm in Estero, Florida, which is where Stephen and I met. Scott and Karen, along with my parents, Bob and Lesley, have been a huge help in bringing this vision to fruition.

We feel a strong pull to offer more family friendly activities to the community, and we want to continue expanding on that idea! We're grateful to be able to do what we love each and every day!
